Diesel
Electric Multiple Units.
All power cars on the
ex-Southern region DEMUs have above floor mounted engines and all
vehicles are equipped with buckeye couplings. They were all built
at Eastleigh with the frames laid at Ashford. They are commonly
known as 'Thumpers.'
Class 201/202 -
Preserved 'Hastings' Unit.
    - DMBSO-3TSOL-DMBSO.
- English Electric
        4SRKT engines of 370 kW (500 hp).
- Two EE507 traction
        motors on the inner bogie.
- Gangwayed within unit
        only.
- Slam doors.
- Dimensions of 17.68 x
        2.50 m (60000/60501), 19.66 x 2.50 m (60118/60529), 19.75
        x 2.82 m (70262).
- Maximum speed of 75
        mph.
Unit made up from 2 class
201 short-frame cars and 2 class 202 long-frame cars. 'Hastings'
units had narrow bodies for use on the line between Tonbridge and
Battle. This had restricted loading guage tunnels which were
converted to single track operation in the 1980's allowing
standard rolling stock to be used. The set also contains a Class
411 EMU trailer.
Unit number 201001. Cars
in formation: 60000, 60501, 70262, 60529, 60118. Car 60000 is
named 'Hastings', and the unit is in Southern Region Green.
Class 205/0 - 3H.
    - DMBSO-TSO-DTCsoL or
        DMBSO-DTCsoL.

- Two EE507 traction
        motors on the inner bogie.
- Non gangwayed.
- Slam Doors.
- Dimensions of 20.28 x
        2.82 m.
- Maximum Speed 75 mph.
Units are: 205001, 205009,
205012, 205018, 205023 (2-car stored at Eastleigh), 205024,
205025, 205028, 205032 and 205033. Based at Selhurst near
Croydon.
Class 205/1 - 3H.
    - Same details as
        205/0.
- DMBSO-TSOL-DTSOL.
- Refurbished 1980
        fitted with PA and fluorescent lighting.
One unit: 205205 with cars
60110, 71634, 60810.
Class 207/0 - 2D.
    - DMBSO-DTSO (formerly
        DMBSO-TCsoL-DTSO).
- These units were
        built for the Oxted line.
- They had a narrow
        body-profile for use through the Somerhill Tunnel between
        Tonbridge and Grove Junction. This tunnel was converted
        to single track in the 1980s.
- English Electric
        4SRKT engines of 450 kW (600 hp).
- Two EE507 traction
        motors on the inner bogie.
- Non gangwayed.
- Slam Doors.
- Dimensions of 20.34 x
        2.74 m (DMBSO), 20.32 x 2.74 m (DTSO), 20.34 x 2.74 m
        (TCsoL).
- Maximum Speed of 75
        mph.
One unit left - 207017
with cars 60142 and 60916. Plus spare cars 60135, 60616 and
60138.
Class 207/1 -3D.
    - DMBSO-TSOL-DTSO.
- Details as 207/0
        except for, gangwayed sets with a Class 411 EMU trailer
        vehicle in the middle.
Units are: 207201, 207202
and 207203. All based at Selhurst.
