Sub Class 47/3.

Built without train heat (except 47300), equipped with slow speed control, RA 6 and Maximum speed of 75 mph. Class members 47300 to 47379 and 47981.

Sub Class 47/4.

Equipped with train heating, RA 6 and a maximum speed of 95 mph. Class members 47462 to 47640 and 47798 to 47976.

Sub Class 47/6.

Fitted with high phosphorus brake blocks, RA 6 and a maximum speed of 75 mph. One member 47676.

Sub Class 47/7.

47701 to 47717 are fitted with an older form of TDM, RA 6, twin fuel tanks and a maximum speed of 95 mph.

47721 to 47793 are Railnet dedicated locomotives. Fitted with twin fuel tanks, RCH jumper cables for operating with propelling control vehicles (PCVs). RA 6 and a maximum speed of 95 mph.

47350 at EastleighAnother shot of 47350 at Eastleigh this time on the 19th March 1992. This locomotive was painted in the old Large Logo livery with yellow cabs. It was unofficially called "Scorpion." 47366 at Swindon47366 (in Large Logo livery) leads 47108 and 47105 at Swindon on the 12th December 1992. Both of 47105 and 47108 have now been scrapped. 47366 is in Civil Engineers Livery and is stored unserviceable at Wigan Springs Branch.
47426 at ReadingLarge Logo liveried 47426 at Reading on the 19th March 1992. This locomotive has now been withdrawn. 47433 Bristol Bath Road47433 pulls 47844 out of Bristol Bath Road depot (BR) on the 21st of February 1993. This loco has now been scrapped and awaited disposal at ABB Crewe Works. 47844 is now in the Virgin Livery and is assigned to Crewe Diesel Depot (CD).

This loco was named "Old Oak Common Traction and Maintenance Depot" when this photo was taken. The 47/7's took over the Waterloo to Exeter route after the withdrawal of the Class 50 (Hoovers) in 1992. These were then replaced by the Class 159 DMUs. 47701 is now at Tyesley Railway Museum (Birmingham).
