• Built 1959 to 1963 at Ashford or Eastleigh works.
• 1957 type electrical equipment.
• Mark 6 motor bogies and B5 (Southern Region) trailer bogies.
• Gangways throughout.
• Four EE507 traction motors of 185 kW.
• Dimensions of 19.75 x 2.82 m.
• Kent Coast Express Stock with a maximum speed of 90 mph.

These units were refurbished with hopper ventilators, InterCity 70 seats and fluorescent lighting.

Numbers are 2301 to 2307. All in Stagecoach livery and allocated to Fratton (FR) depot. They work the Portsmouth to London Waterloo services, sharing the route with Class 421 and Class 442 units.
