Class 309 - Clacton Express Stock.

• DMBSO(T)-TSOL-TCsoL-BDTSOL.
• Built in 1962-3 as 2 car units.
• They were made up to four cars by the conversion of loco-hauled stock in 1973.
• All now refurbished with fluorescent lighting, new seating and hopper ventilators.
• Commonwealth bogies.
• Four GEC traction motors of 210 kW.
• Gangwayed throughout.
• Slam doors.
• Dimensions of 19.76 x 2.82 m (outer cars), 19.67 x 2.82 m (inner cars).
• Express stock with a maximum speed of 100 mph.

Class 309/1.

Details as above. Two units in class 309605 and 309606 - both stored at MoD (Ministry of Defence) Long Marsden.

Class 309/2.

BDTCsoL-MBSOL(T)-TSO-DTSOL. Details as for 309/1 except - units 309613-309617 contained griddle cars - these were withdrawn to make way for converted loco-hauled stock.

Units are 309613, 309616, 309617, 309623, 309624 and 309627. All allocated to Manchester Longsight (LG) and in Northwest Regional Railways livery except 309624 which is in Manchester Airport Express Livery (blue and white).
